I just read a very helpful article by Louise Green over at the Expat Exchange. The article, titled Making Emigration Easier in Small Phases, describes three distinct phases.
- The Conception Phase, which can last 2-5 years. I don’t feel so badly now about taking so long with this decision!
- Next comes the Transition Phase, which lasts, according to the author, from the time you get your visas until you arrive in your destination country. This includes all the mechanics of moving.
- Last, the Integration Phase. This can happen quickly, or it can last years.
Definitely a good article to read, especially if you’ve been thinking and planning for a long time and wonder if you’ll ever make the move!
