One of the things I like most about Panama in general — and the Azuero Peninsula in particular — is you’re never far from mountains and ocean.
Last week we toured a couple of fincas for sale in the hills above Las Tablas. One of them’s about eight miles out of town, the other about 13. No, we’re not thinking about buying either one but I wanted to be able to tell you about them.
The day was sunny but with enough cloud cover to keep it comfortable.
We went to the farthest one first. It’s an eight hectare plot (about 20 acres) near the town of Flores de Amarillo (if I understood correctly). You need a four-wheel drive vehicle or a horse to get to it, as the last two miles are on a very bumpy dirt road.
Once you arrive, though, the views are spectacular. The day we visited it was clear enough that we could catch tantalizing glimpses of the ocean to the east. The air was also noticeably cooler and fresher than it was in town.
The owner wants $60,000 for the property.
Our second stop was near the pueblo of El Munoz. This is a smaller piece of land, about four hectares, which the owner plans to divide into four buildable lots. He has plans to build a common access driveway for all four.
There’s electricity and a well already at the property line. The owner has also sprayed for weed control (hence its brown appearance at the moment).
Views from here are just as spectacular.
Prices for these building lots will range from $20-25,000.
Here’s a rough map of the area. The marker next to the first property is cerro Canajagua (Canajagua Mountain) on the map if you want to check it out yourself.
