How do your Online Business Costs Compare?

How do your Online Business Costs Compare?

For many of us, portable careers are the key to living comfortably overseas. While many expats rely on teaching English, or blogging about their travel or expat lifestyle and related subjects to generate their overseas income, more and more expats are running an actual business, or working virtually for an actual business.

Back in 2009, when I started this site (yes, it has been that long!), I conducted a reader poll and found that 75% of you would need to generate some income overseas. I should conduct that survey again — I bet the number would be higher today.

An online business is an excellent way to earn income from anywhere. Here are just a few of the benefits:

  • It’s completely portable, so you can live anywhere with an internet connection
  • Startup costs are low
  • Ongoing costs of maintaining the business are low
  • Depending on where and how you get paid, you can enjoy substantial tax benefits

Even though costs of starting and running an online business are very low — especially compared with the costs of starting a traditional, bricks and mortar business, there are still some costs.

I thought you might find this latest report interesting. It’s from the folks at Copyblogger Media, who bring you StudioPress WordPress themes, and the Rainmaker Platform, as well as the best advice in the business about content marketing.

Enjoy!
